Between the Reformer studios tucked near the Old Town, the Vinyasa classes in a former workshop in the Mattenhof and the sessions under the stone vaults of the Cave, Bern has a wellness scene denser than you'd imagine for a city its size.
At Vytal Oya, we believe the wellness ritual doesn't stop at the mat. So here is a selection of real addresses, identified in our research, organised by neighbourhood and specialty.
Why choosing the right studio matters
The Reformer Pilates market remains lightly regulated in Switzerland: anyone can open a studio, which means the quality of instruction and instructor training varies a lot from one address to another. A good studio can be recognised by its class sizes, the quality of its individual follow-up and how well its atmosphere matches your practice.
It's also a question of consistency: the closer the address is to your home or office, the more often you'll go back. So here is a selection organised by neighbourhood, with reference addresses identified in our research.
Pilates Bern: two addresses, from Sickingerstrasse to the Old Town
Led by Beatrice Eggimann, Pilates Bern runs two studios: the first at Sickingerstrasse 5, five minutes from the main station by tram, the second at Hotelgasse 4, right in the heart of the Old Town, near the Zytglogge. The brand offers Mat Pilates, Reformer, TRX, Yin Yoga as well as prenatal and postnatal classes, with a fascia-oriented approach (FAMO Fascia Movement).
Beyond Limits Studio: Reformer Pilates in Bümpliz
At Statthalterstrasse 105, in the Bümpliz neighbourhood, Ewelina Czykirska offers Mat Work and Reformer in a studio designed for personalised guidance, in small groups or private sessions. An address reachable by bus (lines 27 and M83) or tram (7 and 32), with parking right nearby.
nyah Pilates & Yoga: the long-standing studio of Schosshalde
At Laubeggstrasse 70, in the Schosshalde neighbourhood, nyah Pilates & Yoga, run by Antonia Sassanelli Spori, offers a broad range: classical Pilates, group Reformer Pilates, FAMO Fascia Movement, classes for pregnant women and postpartum, as well as yoga. Bus no. 12 stops a stone's throw from the studio, right opposite the Laubegg school.
Yoga Atelier Bern: the bright attic loft of the Mattenhof
Set at Konsumstrasse 16/C, in a light-filled 110 m² dachstock (attic loft), Yoga Atelier Bern, led by Joëlle von Arx and a team of about ten teachers, offers Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin Yoga, Qigong and breathwork, in an approach deliberately focused on how it feels rather than performance. The studio is a ten-minute walk from the main station.
OYA Original
A wellness drink for after class
Do you run a Pilates or yoga studio in Bern? OYA Original is a 100% pure ube powder, with no additives and no caffeine, designed to accompany your students after exercise, as a hot or iced drink at the counter. We'd be delighted to talk with you about introducing it to your community.
Discover OYA OriginalSvarupa Yoga: two studios between Lorraine and the Old Town
Svarupa Yoga runs two quite distinct spaces: the Lorraine studio, at Seelandweg 7, on the banks of the Aare with an oak floor and large glass roofs, and the Cave, at Postgasse 44 in the Old Town, a 600-year-old vaulted cellar that also serves as a recording venue for online classes. The brand offers Hatha, Vinyasa and yoga teacher trainings.
How to choose your studio in Bern
Class size. In Reformer especially, a small group guarantees real follow-up on posture and machine settings.
Instructor training. As the sector is lightly regulated, don't hesitate to ask for certifications before committing to a membership.
The trial class. Most of the studios mentioned offer an introductory option (the “Probiererli” at Yoga Atelier Bern, for example): it's the best way to judge the atmosphere before committing.
Proximity. A studio five minutes from your home or office is far more likely to become a real weekly ritual than an address on the other side of town.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I find a Reformer Pilates studio in Bern?
Pilates Bern, Beyond Limits Studio in Bümpliz and nyah Pilates & Yoga in Schosshalde all offer Reformer Pilates, spread across the Old Town, the west and the east of the city.
Which Bern neighbourhood has the most yoga studios?
The Mattenhof and the Old Town bring together several well-known addresses, including Yoga Atelier Bern and the two Svarupa Yoga studios (Lorraine and the Cave).
Should you choose Reformer or Mat Pilates to start?
Both suit beginners. The Reformer offers more guidance thanks to spring resistance, while Mat works more on core strength without a machine. A trial class remains the best way to decide.
Do the studios mentioned offer trial classes?
Most of the addresses cited offer an introductory option or a first class at a reduced rate. We invite you to check the current terms directly with each studio before heading over.
What should you drink after a Pilates or yoga session?
A gentle, stimulant-free drink, like an ube latte, helps extend the post-class feeling of calm without the energy spike of a coffee or a strongly dosed matcha.
