Ube vs Matcha

Two cultures, two philosophies

Benefits, taste, caffeine: the honest comparison we wish we had found.

Two powders. Two colours. Two worlds. Matcha has conquered counters all over the world.

Ube, on the other hand, is only just beginning to make a name for itself: the first superfood around which we built our vision.

Two origins, two cultures

The ube

Ube (Dioscorea alata L.) is a purple yam (root) native to the Philippines and Southeast Asia. Cultivated for centuries by rural communities, notably in the Bicol and Iloilo regions, it is the founding ingredient of many Filipino desserts such as ube halaya (purple yam jam) or halo-halo.

Matcha

Matcha is a powder made from shade-grown green tea leaves ( Camellia sinensis ) originating in Japan . Its preparation dates back to the 12th century and is part of the chanoyu tradition, the Japanese tea ceremony. Every gesture has a precise meaning, from preparing the water to the last sip.

Ube & Matcha

The differences

UBE| Anthocyanins

The purple colour of the ube comes from anthocyanins, antioxidants also found in blueberries. These compounds help protect cells and fight oxidative stress.

MATCHA | Catechins

Matcha is one of the richest sources of catechins, particularly EGCG, a powerful antioxidant found in green tea. Because the entire leaf is consumed in powder form, its active compounds are especially concentrated.

UBE| High in fibre

With approximately 35g of fibre per 100g , ube supports digestion, nourishes the microbiota and promotes lasting satiety.
For everyday digestive comfort , ube is often better suited.

MATCHA | Low in fibre

Matcha contains little fibre and its tannins can sometimes be irritating to sensitive stomachs.

UBE | Naturally mild taste

Ube offers a mild, slightly vanilla flavour with floral and nutty notes. Naturally pleasant, it needs no additions to be enjoyed.

MATCHA | Intense Flavour

Matcha has a grassy and sometimes bitter taste, with umami notes. It can be surprising at first and is often sweetened with sugar or syrup.

the criterion that changes everything

zero caffeine

Ube contains no caffeine . Its energy comes from complex carbohydrates that are released gradually, without a spike in blood sugar.

Matcha contains approximately 35 to 70 mg of caffeine per serving.

Honest verdict

Matcha is the drink of effort and concentration, ube is the drink of balance and comfort.

Neither better nor worse: different.
What ube offers that matcha cannot: zero caffeine, an unparalleled fibre content among wellness drinks, and a naturally mild taste.

Grown in northern Luzon (Philippines) by family producers, it is processed according to a process certified FSSC 22000, ISO 22000 and cGMP, guaranteeing purity and traceability.

Not the flashiest purple on the market.
The most honest one.
